Guitar – Keyboards – Dobro – Vocals
I was born and raised in Newcastle-on-Tyne in the North-East of England, and began my musical career playing the trumpet in my school orchestra. I started on guitar at age fourteen, and by 16 was playing several nights a week in my father's trio, covering everything from jazz standards to 70s pop hits. I also studied jazz and classical guitar with local professionals, and successfully completed the Royal College of Music series of classical guitar examinations.
After moving to the US in 1982, I learned country firsthand by spending three years in Tulsa, OK, where I also learned to square dance, two-step, and Cotton-Eyed Joe. I sing and play guitar and keyboards in the band, and am working on adding banjo and dobro to our sound. Maybe even a little trumpet, too!
In my day gig, after 30+ years doing the Dilbert thing as an electrical engineer, I work from home as a freelance writer for several magazines and websites that cater to professional engineers.
I live with my wife Catherine in Mesa, where I also teach electric and acoustic guitar out of my home studio.
